{"id":697,"date":"2012-03-12T00:02:07","date_gmt":"2012-03-12T00:02:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mbouchard.com\/aneleda\/?p=697"},"modified":"2012-03-12T00:02:07","modified_gmt":"2012-03-12T00:02:07","slug":"the-flower-in-the-desert-for-ellise","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mbouchard.com\/aneleda\/the-flower-in-the-desert-for-ellise","title":{"rendered":"The Flower in the Desert &#8211; For Ellise"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Where arabesques have long since fallen<br \/>\nNow steel and metal take their place.<br \/>\nWhere dust and stinging wind won\u2019t harken<br \/>\nTo e\u2019en the sweetest voice or face,<\/p>\n<p>Where o\u2019re the stacks of burdened sandbags<br \/>\nConcrete blends in with the sky,<br \/>\nWhere barricades and wires surround<br \/>\nTo keep out dangers drawing nigh,<\/p>\n<p>Where sun is by the storm obscured<br \/>\nStill her earthly visage shows<br \/>\nRooted in the feeble ground<br \/>\nUndeterred she graceful&#8217;y grows.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>This poem was written in response to a photo Ellise posted which showed beautiful sunflowers blooming in the metal and concrete military base in Afghanistan. She said that the flowers kept her sane, blooming in that sandy, hot, dry place. I thought of how much we miss her, and wrote this so she would realize how much WE miss her blooming here.<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Where arabesques have long since fallen Now steel and metal take their place.
