The stones are as cold as the words from our tongues
\n<\/span><\/i>What good is the harp when the battle is done?
\n<\/span><\/i>when her brothers are dead
\n<\/span><\/i>and the field is all crows
\n<\/span><\/i>what can she sing?
\n<\/span><\/i>what does she know?
\n<\/span><\/i>when they are beside her no more?
\n<\/span><\/i>Tell her what are the songs for?<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

She took to the war with her vows to sing truth
\n<\/span>her harp strapped to her back as a sword
\n<\/span>she marched and she laughed with the war band\u2019s bold youth
\n<\/span>and inspired them each with a word. <\/span><\/p>\n

They traveled for days through the forest and fen
\n<\/span>Until they reach the sea past the moor
\n<\/span>They set up in the village, lit fires, and then
\n<\/span>awaited the raid on the shore.<\/span><\/p>\n

The harp plays so sweetly
\n<\/span><\/i>as the carnage is wrought
\n<\/span><\/i>the tales are a monument
\n<\/span><\/i>painfully bought
\n<\/span><\/i>Or are tales of glory sufficient in death?
\n<\/span><\/i>When each note was expelled
\n<\/span><\/i>by someone\u2019s last breath.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

She was set on the cliff to watch the first strike
\n<\/span>as the forces moved out with the tide
\n<\/span>Death met the raiders and kinsmen alike
\n<\/span>on the white sand where no one could hide.<\/span><\/p>\n

As the spring storm rolled in she sang in the rain
\nHer voice tumbling down to the sea
\n<\/span>But from her great height she saw t\u2019was in vain
\n<\/span>As her force was backed up on the scree.<\/span><\/p>\n

The stones are as cold as the words from our tongues
\n<\/span><\/i>What good is the harp when the battle is done?
\n<\/span><\/i>when her brothers are dead
\n<\/span><\/i>and the field is all crows
\n<\/span><\/i>what can she sing?
\n<\/span><\/i>what does she know?
\n<\/span><\/i>when they are beside her no more?
\n<\/span><\/i>Tell her what are the songs for?<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

She could not be reached on her aerie so high
\n<\/span>Wrapped in the smoke of the ships
\n<\/span>Nothing moved save the sea that she could espy,
\n<\/span>But the words still rained down from her lips.<\/span><\/p>\n

Till her voice broke she keened, that the sound cover
\n<\/span>the calls of the dying below
\n<\/span>calling for mother, and father, and lover\u2026
\n<\/span>begging the gods to their favor bestow.<\/span><\/p>\n
