This Scroll is actually a book. The text is written as a series of poems in ryme royal – a form introduced by Chaucer in the 1380s which was considered one of the standards for narrative poetry during the Middle Ages. <\/em>It is a seven-line iambic pentameter rhyming poem with the structure of ababbcc.
\n<\/em><\/p>\n

Mikel’s persona is 16c German, <\/span>and so I used relevant German aphorisms for the headings for each poem. They are probably not period but they are appropriate and fun, and help tie this to her persona more tightly.\u00a0 (I’m ok with it.<\/em>)<\/p>\n

The scroll-poems each took two pages. The official text itself is followed by a set of poems about specific arts that Mikel enjoys: dance, dabbling, music, and ink. They are written by Baron Jean Corbeau de Montaigne, Baroness Sylvia du Vey, and me.<\/em><\/p>\n

PAGE ONE INSCRIPTION<\/p>\n

Allwissend bin ich nicht; doch viel ist mir bewusst<\/strong>

THE BEGINNING<\/p>\n

Wie man in den Wald hineinruft, so schallt es heraus.<\/strong>
\n\u201cJust as one calls into the forest, so it echoes back.\u201d<\/p>\n

Join Eastern people and rejoice today
\nAs Empire\u2019s Crown doth call you gather here
\nNow harken all, listen well as you may.
\nSo shall we strive to make our meaning clear
\nAs we lay wreath upon our subject dear
\nWe muse upon the sweet Anna Mikel –
\nAnd how the pow\u2019r of Art doth her impel.<\/p>\n

Upon that holy road few can compete
\nwith melodies that issue note by note,
\nwith work of thread and cloth ever so neat,
\nfrom tiny works to luxuri\u2019ous coat.
\nFrom letters on the page that she hath wrote,
\nto dancing merrily, to living well
\nwithin the glor\u2019ious tent where she oft dwell.<\/p>\n

Within the house which she hath built with love,
\nHer handiwork enlivens Wanderstamm,
\nthat look\u2019d like heav\u2019n had brought it from above-
\nbright braziers, bocce, or softly sung psalm,
\na place where work is seen as cheerful balm,
\nas joyful as a rousing roundelay
\nindustri\u2019ous devotion to this play.<\/p>\n

To Anne Mikel von Salm, no art do daunt
\nso we bestow these arms that she may bear
\nArgent, on (a) pale sable a rose argent,

\nor on her shoulder place the sacred wreath
\nthat all may ken the artist underneath.<\/p>\n

On Dance<\/strong><\/p>\n

\n\u201cThe more the merrier.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

She glides with subtle grace across the floor.
\nHer cheerful word and ready laugh they hear.
\nShe welcomes those who seek for Terpsichore,
\nand bids youth and experience draw near.<\/p>\n

And should the fearsome enemy\u2019s head rear,
\nher feet will flow from glade and ballroom hence,
\nto use her agile art in East\u2019s defense!<\/p>\n

\nkind in her words, indisposed to brabble,
\nteaching, dancing, or leading the choral,
\nlo, it is shown, she ought be a laurel.<\/p>\n
