“This ode was made when Astrid needed our help for Malagentia in the Great Northeastern War, and we hadn’t been asked (or thought we’d not been asked) and she was sure we had been.\u00a0 So I imagined what might have happened to the heralds who had been sent forth to ask for our aid.”<\/em><\/p>\n

The Leader of the neighbor realm
\ncalled his heralds into court
\n“We’ve a need that’s dire in nature,
\nand desire for brave support!”
\nThus the Heralds were commanded
\nto deliver impassioned plea.
\nSo up the road that pointed north
\non mighty mounts went three…<\/p>\n

What became of those good heralds
\nnow we at last shall see.
\nThe first and eldest Herald
\ncleared his mighty throat to speak,
\nwhen his senses were betrayed
\nby the smell of cooking leeks.
\nHe headed toward the kitchen
\npushing quickly through the group,
\nthere was a loud metallic rattle
\nfollowed by a joyful whoop…<\/p>\n

The last time that we saw him
\nhe was bathing in the soup!<\/p>\n

Thus Herald two began the speech
\nfor the folk of Endewearde
\nbut the pretty lass a winking
\nmade rememb’ring rather hard.
\nA fierce look from her mother
\nbrought the second lad around
\nbut to his own amazement,
\nhe couldn’t make a sound….<\/p>\n

And now he’s either married
\nor he’s buried underground!<\/p>\n

The way was long and dangerous
\nHerald three barely survived!
\nHe passed by the water tower
\nquite relived he had arrived.
\nThe populace did gather
\nat the the shaking Herald’s hail
\nand took him to the mead hall
\nto listen to his tale…<\/p>\n

He never made it back for he’s
\nstill drunk on Godric’s ale!<\/p>\n

So war loomed for the neighbor land
\nand the people did not know.
\nThey had a cook and wedding
\nand a brand new bard to show.
\nFinally the question came
\nfrom a Lady very high,
\nand who would dare refuse to help
\nwhen asked by Valker-aye?<\/p>\n

Oh we would not refuse to help
