The Society for Creative Anachronism<\/a> is an international organization dedicated to researching and re-creating the arts and skills of pre-17th-century Europe. Our “Known World” consists of 19 kingdoms, with over 30,000 members residing in countries around the world. Members, dressed in clothing of the Middle Ages and Renaissance, attend events which feature tournaments, royal courts, feasts, dancing, various classes & workshops, and more.<\/p>\n

Aneleda lives in the East Kingdom (www.eastkingdom.org)<\/a> which stretches from Delaware to Pennsylvania to Newfoundland to Quebec (see a map of the Known World here<\/a>). The place she lives in the East is the Shire of Endewearde, which is located in central Maine.<\/p>\n

Maine has four SCA groups – the Province of Malagentia<\/a> (southern Maine), Shire of Endewearde<\/a> (central, western and eastern Maine), Shire of Hadchester<\/a> (mid-coast Maine), and Shire of Smithwick <\/a>(northern Maine).<\/p>\n

The most active hubs in Maine are in the Portland region, Bangor region, Waterville\/Unity region, Lewiston-Auburn region, Waldoboro area, Houlton area and occasionally Fort Kent. Events happen all over the state, and country, however, and one can play with any group in the SCA one wishes!<\/p>\n

The SCA is a very family-friendly organization. It is a hobby which is not a spectator sport but is inclusive of everyone. Between the gentle arts and sciences and martial arts and sciences there is an activity that everyone seems to be well-suited to enjoy.<\/p>\n
